THE BANK:

 

Established in 1964, the African Development Bank is the premier pan-African development institution, promoting economic growth and social progress across the continent. There are 81 member states, including 54 in Africa (Regional Member Countries).  The Bank’s development agenda is delivering the financial and technical support for transformative projects that will significantly reduce poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic growth. In order to sharply focus the objectives of the Ten-Year Strategy (2024 – 2033) and ensure greater developmental impact, five major areas (High 5s), all of which will accelerate our delivery for Africa, have been identified for scaling up, namely; energy, agro-business, industrialization, integration and improving the quality of life for the people of Africa. The Bank is seeking to build a management team that will lead the successful implementation of this vision.

 

THE COMPLEX:

 

The Presidency Complex (URPR) comprises the Office of the President of the Bank Group and all corporate offices, departments, and other organizational units that are directly subordinate to the Presidency, both administratively and functionally. The President, in the capacity of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bank Group, is mandated to provide strategic management of the Bank Group and its resources, ensuring the Bank Group fulfills its mission of contributing to the economic development and social progress of Regional Member Countries.

 

The Presidency Complex offers day-to-day and medium-term corporate leadership and executive oversight, maintains communication with the Bank Group’s Member Countries, and supports the Boards of Directors in carrying out their statutory roles. Additionally, the Complex provides legal and regulatory oversight of the Bank Group’s business, ensures integrated risk management across operations, manages corporate communication with internal and external stakeholders, promotes integrity, transparency, and the highest ethical standards among Bank Group personnel, and ensures the security of personnel, premises, physical assets, information, and data in all locations where the Bank Group operates. Furthermore, the President’s Complex plays a key role in catalyzing investments from various sources in alignment with the Bank Group’s operational priorities.

 

The President directly supervises several departments and units, including the Office of the President, the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Department, the Office of the Auditor General, the Group Risk Management Directorate, the General Counsel and Legal Services Department, the Communication and External Relations Department, the Staff Integrity and Ethics Office, the Office of the Secretary General & General Secretariat, the Africa Investment Forum, the Joint Secretariat Support Office, and the Asia External Representation Office.

 

THE HIRING DEPARTMENT:

 

The purpose of the Communication and External Relations Department is to plan, prepare, and implement public relations and institutional communication programs designed to enhance the Bank’s visibility among its various audiences, promoting social and economic development in Africa. The department also works to establish and maintain the Bank’s credibility and reputation as Africa’s leading development finance institution. Additionally, the department is responsible for helping the Bank better understand how it is perceived, both internally and externally.

 

THE POSITION:

 

The Web Developer & Content Assistant will support the Bank's digital presence by managing comprehensive web content and optimization tasks, contributing to high-impact digital experiences that strengthen online visibility, enhance user engagement, and maintain brand excellence across all digital touchpoints while applying technical expertise and content development skills to ensure web properties meet the highest standards of performance, accessibility, and search optimization.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS:

 

Under the supervision and guidance of the Division Manager, PCER 2, the Web Assistant will:

 

•     Assist in creating, updating, and maintaining web pages promptly.

•     Help increase accountability and efficiency in content management.

•     Support efforts to improve search engine optimization (SEO) to enhance the visibility of the Bank's content online.

•     Aid in tagging and categorizing documents according to the Bank’s document typology for proper organization.

•     Collaborate with content creators, designers, and stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate content updates.

•     Assist in creating and formatting web pages dedicated to entities, sectors, initiatives, topics, events, and knowledge products.

•     Conduct quality checks to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with brand standards.

•     Format images, banners, and multimedia content for web pages or articles (adjust size and resolution).

•     Help post press releases, event announcements, and videos across all platforms (Web, Intranet, Extranet) with appropriate tags.

•     Provide web analytics data to PCER management and communication officers.

•     Assist in running regular content audits to detect outdated information, broken links, and ensure compliance with layout and format standards.

•     Contribute to reviewing web platform usability and recommending improvements to the user interface.

 

COMPETENCIES (skills, experience and knowledge):

 

•     Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Web Development, Information Technology, Digital Media, or related field

•     Have a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in web development and digital content management

•     Demonstrated portfolio showcasing responsive, accessible web solutions and content strategy

Content Management Expertise

•     Advanced proficiency in content management systems including Drupal (versions 7-11), WordPress, and other major CMS platforms

•     Headless CMS experience with modern solutions like Strapi, Contentful, or Sanity

•     Content strategy development including information architecture, content workflows, and editorial governance

•     Content migration experience between different CMS platforms and versions

•     Multi-site management and content syndication across various digital properties

•     Asset Management: Image optimization, media libraries, and digital asset workflows

•     Design Systems: Component libraries and style guide development
